GRIDCo Attributes Power Outage in Ghana to System Disturbance

Accra: The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has attributed the nationwide power outage experienced in the early hours of Wednesday to a power system disturbance on the National Interconnected Transmission System. A statement issued by the Company on Wednesday revealed that the disturbance occurred at approximately 0311 hours, leading to the simultaneous tripping of several power generation plants across the national power system, which caused an interruption in electricity supply.

According to Ghana News Agency, GRIDCo immediately initiated its established system restoration procedures. Engineers and system operators collaborated closely with stakeholders in the power sector to restore electricity supply as swiftly as possible without compromising safety. The statement indicated that a comprehensive technical investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact cause of the system disturbance.

GRIDCo extended apologies to the public for the inconvenience caused and expressed gratitude to consumers for their patience and understanding during the restoration process. The company reassured that it is fully committed to restoring supply to all affected customers promptly and safely, and promised to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
