Greater accra: The Ghana Police Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD), in collaboration with Accra Central and Adenta Police, conducted a significant vehicular inspection operation targeting unauthorized use of sirens, LED/fog lights, strobe lights, and beacon lights on vehicles.
According to Ghana News Agency, the operation took place under the traffic lights at the Dodowa and Aburi junctions near the Adenta Police Station. Vehicles traveling from Aburi, Dodowa, Adenta, and Madina found with prohibited lighting fixtures were stopped, and the unauthorized gadgets were removed before the vehicles were released.
A total of 84 vehicles were intercepted during the operation, including nine private cars, 45 passenger buses, 20 tipper/cargo trucks, seven pick-ups, and a Land Cruiser from the Jubilee House. The crackdown, which began around 8:00 AM and concluded at noon, was led by DCOP Mr. Alex Kodwo Wowolo, with assistance from ASP Mr. Julius Ahumah of the Central Police MTTD.
In interviews conducted by GNA, several drivers expressed their concerns about being blinded by LED lights from other vehicles at night, acknowledging that the arrests marked a positive step towards improving road safety.
