Adevukope: Mr Johnson Dotsey Mensah, the Assembly Member for the Adevukope Electoral Area in the Ketu North Municipality, has reported a suspected grave robbery at the Weta Police Station. The incident was brought to light on June 10 when Mr Mensah received information about a disturbance at the Adevukope Cemetery.
According to Ghana News Agency, earlier that day, at approximately 0630 hours, Mr Mensah was informed that unknown individuals had allegedly vandalized the graves of two recently interred individuals, late Esi Havor Deku, aged 67, and Akakpo Agbobli, aged 93. These individuals had been buried three weeks and one month ago, respectively. The report further alleges that the perpetrators exhumed and absconded with the remains of Deku, while their attempt to remove the body of Agbobli was unsuccessful.
The District Crime Officer, ASP Emmanuel Habada, accompanied by the complainant, visited the scene, which is situated a few meters from the Adevukope community. Upon inspection, they discovered that Madam Deku's grave had been desecrated, the coffin was opened, and the body was missing, leaving behind only pieces of cloth thought to belong to the deceased. Meanwhile, Mr Agbobli's grave was found to be partially disturbed, but the coffin remained intact.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident to identify and apprehend those responsible for this grave robbery.
