Accra: Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has announced that the Government is actively reforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by incorporating emerging digital skill sets, soft skills, and ensuring practical trade skills. The initiative aims to integrate entrepreneurial acumen to develop a skilled workforce poised for the job market.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Minister emphasized that investments have been prioritized to provide necessary infrastructure for Competency-Based-Training (CBT), enhance the image of TVET, and expand access to meet the labor demands of a burgeoning 24-hour manufacturing economy. He spoke during the Government Accountability Series Press Conference at the Presidency in Accra, where he detailed the Ministry's achievements for the first half of 2026.
The Government has initiated the construction of two regional TVET Centres of Excellence in Salaga and Kumasi. These centers aim to promote innovation and simulate real work environments, bridging the gap between classroom instruction and industry requirements. The Minister underscored the importance of Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) for all TVET students, noting that this initiative is vital for transitioning students from theoretical learning to practical, on-the-job applications, thereby enhancing their employability.
The Ministry has successfully engaged and collaborated with 1,820 private sector and state-owned enterprises to facilitate industrial attachments and practical training sessions for TVET learners.
