Government Triples Monthly Allowances for Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers

Accra: The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has announced a significant increase in monthly allowances for paramount chiefs and queen mothers across the country. Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, the Minister highlighted the government's decision to enhance the financial support provided to these traditional leaders.

According to Ghana Web, the allowance has been increased from GHS1,000 to GHS3,000, effective in 2025. The Minister emphasized that prior to the current administration, traditional leaders were receiving a monthly allowance of GHS1,000 under the previous government. He noted that the collaboration between the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Finance has resulted in this substantial increase.

The Minister further explained that this increment reflects the government's commitment to recognizing the significant role that traditional authorities play in governance and community development. The decision to triple the allowances underscores the administration's dedication to supporting traditional leaders who are pivotal in fostering community engagement and development.
