Kumasi: The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has issued a stern warning that the government will decisively address any attempts to sabotage Ghana's power supply systems. Speaking to officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) during his tour of project sites in the Ashanti Region, Dr Jinapor reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply, emphasising that no one would be allowed to derail these efforts.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Jinapor made it clear that while the Ministry is ready to provide full support to industry players, particularly the ECG, accountability will also be demanded. He encouraged the officials, stating, "So please give me your best, and we will support you in any way we can. But let nobody sabotage the system. Don't take me there, it will be very rough for both of us."
Dr Jinapor highlighted the competence of Ghanaian engineers by referencing the recent emergency repairs at the Akosombo Dam, which were completed in a mere five days instead of the expected six months. He expressed confidence in the country's engineering capabilities and urged ECG officials to communicate any challenges that could lead to power disruptions promptly.
During his tour, Dr Jinapor visited several key energy infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region, including ongoing transformer upgrade works at Anwomaso, the CENIT Energy site, and the ASKA Power Thermal plant. These projects are part of the government's initiative to improve power reliability in the region.
