Accra: The Ministry of Finance has announced significant financial contributions from corporate institutions and stakeholders to support the Senior National football team, the Black Stars, in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Mr. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Minister and Chairman of the Black Stars Fundraising Committee, accepted the contributions on behalf of the Government during a brief event held in Accra.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ampem expressed gratitude to all contributors, highlighting the gesture as a collective commitment to the national team's success. He assured that the Committee would continue to engage with stakeholders to secure resources needed for the Black Stars' preparation for the global tournament.
Among the major contributors, Engineers and Planners led the way with a payment of US$2 million, part of its pledged US$5 million support. Timeline and Innovation contributed GH100,000 towards the fund. Additional donations were made by financial institutions, including First Bank with GHC553,500, GT Bank with GHC2,236,000, First Atlantic Bank with GHC1,102,000, and the Petroleum Commission with GHC500,000.
Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, Founder and CEO of Engineers and Planners, reaffirmed the company's commitment to fulfilling its pledge, emphasizing that supporting the Black Stars contributes to national pride and unity. Pastor Dr. Felix Osomboafo, Head of Monitoring at Timeline and Innovation, confirmed that his company had made a part payment towards its US$300,000 pledge to support the Black Stars.
