Accra: The Government has procured medical equipment to strengthen Free Primary Healthcare Delivery in the country. A statement issued by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications, said President John Dramani Mahama would launch the Free Primary Health Care Programme on April 15th, a key campaign promise.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Programme is designed to ensure universal healthcare for Ghanaians, including 35 percent of the population who are not on the National Health Insurance Scheme. Mr. Ofosu, on Good Friday, accompanied by Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister for Health, inspected 24,534 pieces of medical equipment. These will be distributed from next week to health facilities across the country to facilitate the rollout of the Free Primary Healthcare programme.
The equipment includes X-Ray Machines, Vital Sign Monitors for checking blood pressure and temperature, and Glucometers for measuring blood sugar levels for diabetes screening. Other equipment comprises baby incubators, radiant warmers, and oxygen concentrators for resuscitating newborns after delivery, as well as patient monitors, infusion devices, laboratory analyzers, delivery beds, hospital beds, and ultrasound machines.
