Kumasi: The Government has expressed its dedication to offering economic and employment opportunities to Ghanaian youth through the Sustainable Employable Economic Development (SEED) programme. Mr. Eric Adjei, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurial and Innovation Programme (NEIP), highlighted this commitment while addressing attendees at the opening of the inaugural career fair at the University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (USTED) in Kumasi.
According to Ghana News Agency, the SEED Programme primarily targets students with a focus on entrepreneurial skills, aiming to provide self-employment opportunities, foster innovation, and stimulate the country's economic development. The career fair, themed "Enhancing Employability; Bridging Students' Potential with Industry Opportunities," was attended by employers, industry leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs. It was designed to offer students a platform to interact with industry experts, discover internship and empowerment opportunities, gain career insights, and enhance their networking and skills in the evolving market.
Mr. Adjei emphasized that the government, through the SEED Programme, is preparing young people to transform academic knowledge into entrepreneurship and market-ready skills. He stressed that this initiative would enable technical and vocational institutions to align their curricula with business needs. Furthermore, he mentioned that students are being equipped to navigate the challenges posed by advancements like Artificial Intelligence in the entrepreneurship and skills development sectors.
In a bid to further support youth development, Mr. Adjei announced that the government plans to select 15 students from each Technical and Vocational Institution. These students will receive mentorship, skills training, and business development ideas to bolster their entrepreneurial ventures.
