Accra: The government has announced the resumption of the next phase of evacuations for Ghanaians residing in South Africa following xenophobic attacks targeting Africans in the country.
According to Ghana Web, the development was contained in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 25, 2026. The Ministry's statement informed the public and Ghanaians in South Africa about the government's decision to resume evacuations due to ongoing xenophobic attacks against migrants.
The Ministry detailed that this phase aims to evacuate close to 1,000 Ghanaians and will be conducted in phases. The first flights are scheduled to arrive in Accra on Sunday, July 26, and Monday, July 27, 2026.
Priority for evacuation will be given to women, children, the elderly, those with medical conditions, and students. The Ministry urged distressed Ghanaians to contact the Ghana High Commission for updates and advised all Ghanaians to remain calm, avoid unrest areas, and cooperate with officials for a successful evacuation.
