Kumasi: Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, emphasized the need for governance to be rooted in sacrifice, unity, discipline, honesty, and compassion to achieve meaningful development. He articulated this vision during the Eid al-Adha celebrations held at the forecourt of the Kumasi Central Mosque.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Amoakohene called for these national values to transcend abstract ideals and manifest in the daily conduct of every citizen, especially Muslims, to foster a prosperous and peaceful nation. Eid al-Adha, a festival that commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's obedience and trust in Allah, was the perfect backdrop for his message. The celebration involves prayers and the sacrificial slaughter of animals, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and the less privileged.
Dr Amoakohene acknowledged the crucial role of religious institutions in enhancing national cohesion and promoting responsible citizenship. He committed to maintaining active engagement with Muslims as key development partners. He further highlighted the values of peace, education, entrepreneurship, morality, and social harmony as fundamental to national progress.
Drawing from Prophet Ibrahim's example, Dr Amoakohene noted that the Prophet's unwavering devotion and submission to Allah offer timeless lessons in sacrifice, resilience, and reliance on God. The Regional Minister pointed out that the world is currently facing economic challenges, social divisions, and increasing uncertainty, thus underscoring the importance of unity among citizens.
He emphasized that the spirit of Eid encourages care for the vulnerable, support for the needy, and kindness towards neighbors. Dr Amoakohene urged the public to remember those facing hardship, including the poor, widows, and orphans, and encouraged the youth to remain hopeful, disciplined, and focused, as the nation's future depends on their energy, innovation, and patriotism.
In conclusion, he expressed gratitude to Muslims for their continued support to the government over the past one and a half years and appealed for sustained collaboration in the future.
