Gomoa akropong: The Chiefs and People of Gomoa Akropong No. 2 in the Gomoa Central District have concluded activities marking 70 years of their settlement with a durbar and the annual Akwambo Festival.
According to Ghana News Agency, the week-long celebration featured a visit to the town's ancestral home at Dadawodo. This visit aimed to recount the community's migration history and rekindle communal spirit among the youth to support development initiatives. Other activities included a clean-up exercise, health walk, and cultural displays.
Nana Odum Amanfo VI, Chief of Gomoa Akropong No. 2 and Amankrahene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, emphasized that the town's founders settled with a clear vision, driving progress in education, sanitation, water supply, and other social amenities. He urged parents to prioritize education, describing it as a catalyst for development.
Mr. Hackman Aidoo, the Gomoa Central District Chief Executive, announced plans to construct a three-unit classroom block for the SDA Junior High School and called on residents to support government development programs.
Mr. Kwame Asare Obeng, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, contributed 100 bags of cement towards a two-storey ICT centre and pledged to supply computers and internet connectivity. Individuals who had contributed to health, education, and community development were honored during the celebration.
The MP also promised to donate computers and accessories and further pledged to provide internet connectivity at the ICT centre. Citizens who have contributed to health delivery, educational structures, and other areas to facilitate quality living standards in the town were honored for their services.
