Accra: The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is expected to generate US$1.4 billion in foreign exchange in September 2026, with US$700 million earmarked for commercial banks to support stability in the foreign exchange market. The remaining US$700 million will be made available to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for reserve accumulation under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP).
According to Ghana Web, GoldBod disclosed this in an announcement issued on Monday, August 31, 2026, on its foreign exchange generation and sales for September. The planned foreign exchange sales are part of a new collaborative financing model developed with the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Ghana, commercial banks, and other market stakeholders. This model, aimed at supporting GoldBod's artisanal and small-scale mining gold operations, was implemented on August 3, 2026, following the approval of GANRAP by Cabinet and Parliament.
GoldBod reported that it generated US$1.315 billion in foreign exchange in August under the new model. Of this amount, US$668.21 million was sold directly to commercial banks through spot sales and funded forward arrangements to support foreign exchange market stability. An additional US$646.59 million was made available to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation under GANRAP.
The September programme is anticipated to provide significant foreign exchange support to both the domestic market and the country's reserves. "In September 2026, GoldBod will generate US$1.4 billion in foreign exchange. Of this amount, US$700.0 million will be made available to commercial banks to support foreign exchange market stability, while up to US$700 million will be provided to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation," the Board stated.
GoldBod emphasized its commitment to its statutory mandate of generating foreign exchange for Ghana and pledged to maintain transparency in its dealings with stakeholders.
