Accra: The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has initiated a strategic proposal with the Department of Parks and Gardens to secure approximately three acres of land at Cantonments in Accra for the establishment of its permanent headquarters. The proposal outlines plans for a state-of-the-art facility to support the organization's expanding administrative, technical, commercial, regulatory, and operational functions.
According to Ghana Web, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, formally proposed the plan in a letter dated August 20, 2026. Instead of purchasing the land outright, GoldBod suggests a barter arrangement whereby it would provide infrastructure enhancements for the Department of Parks and Gardens in return for the desired site.
The proposed agreement includes GoldBod financing and constructing a new administrative headquarters for the Department of Parks and Gardens, alongside additional logistical and support facilities that would be mutually agreed upon by both entities.
In his appeal, Gyamfi urged the Department of Parks and Gardens to consider the proposal, highlighting the mutual benefits of the arrangement. 'We will also be grateful if the Department can seek all necessary approvals, if so minded, for this barter arrangement. We look forward to your favourable consideration and to engaging the Department on the modalities for taking this proposal forward. Please accept the assurances of our highest consideration,' Gyamfi stated.
GoldBod emphasized that the deal could deliver lasting infrastructure advantages for both parties, ensuring that the Cantonments land is dedicated to institutional objectives. This request comes as GoldBod continues to broaden its operations following the enactment of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140). The board is tasked with responsibilities such as the purchase, aggregation, assaying, valuation, refining, sale, and export of gold and other precious minerals.
