GoldBod CEO Refutes Allegations of Withholding Financial Data

Accra: Mr Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has firmly rejected allegations from the Minority that GoldBod failed to furnish the Auditor-General with comprehensive financial information for its 2025 accounts.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Gyamfi, speaking during the Government's Accountability Series on Wednesday, clarified that the audit report from the Auditor-General contained no adverse remarks against GoldBod, including any findings on purported losses, procurement violations, or breaches of the Public Financial Management Act.

The allegations arose from a statement by the Minority Leader, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who expressed doubts about the GH?5.44 billion overall surplus reported by GoldBod and speculated that the Auditor-General might not have received a complete view of its financial operations.

The Auditor-General's report, however, documented an operational surplus of GH?909.7 million and an overall surplus of GH?5.44 billion for the 2025 financial year. Mr Gyamfi emphasized that the Auditor-General had unrestricted access to all necessary documents during the audit.

He urged the media to verify the claims with the Auditor-General, maintaining that all documents requested by the audit team were provided and that any queries raised in the management letter were adequately addressed. Mr Gyamfi characterized the allegations of incomplete disclosure as an effort to undermine the credibility of the Auditor-General's work and encouraged critics to rely on the official audit report's findings.

Mr Gyamfi further remarked, 'They now claim that the Auditor-General did not have access to the full picture concerning the operations of GoldBod. This position betrays either a lack of understanding of how an external audit is conducted, or a deliberate determination to undermine yet another independent state institution when its findings do not suit their narratives.'

He concluded by insisting that the audited accounts should be the foundation for evaluating GoldBod's financial performance, dismissing what he described as 'politically motivated claims.'
