Takoradi: Mr Albert Kofi Owusu, the General Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has led a delegation to inspect progress on the ongoing renovation works on the Western Regional Office of the Agency in Takoradi. The project, undertaken by Brison Construction, is part of efforts to modernise and enhance operational efficiency for staff in the region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the renovation is part of the Post COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Programme (PSDPEP), a five-year initiative benefiting multiple organisations, including the GNA. The PSDPEP is funded by a total grant facility of $31.34 million, with $28.5 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and $2.8 million from the Ghana Government.

The General Manager was accompanied by a team of technocrats from the Social Investment Fund (SIF), the implementing agency of the PSDPEP, and the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL), consultants for the renovation project. Mr Owusu expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and commended the contractor for adhering to specifications. He highlighted that the renovation is part of strategic investments to provide a conducive working environment, positioning the GNA to meet the demands of modern journalism.

Mr Harrison Addo, an Engineer at Brison Construction Limited, stated that the project is about 60 percent complete and assured that efforts would be made for the timely completion of the entire project. The scope of work includes rewiring of electrical systems, replacement of louvre blades and frames, painting, rehabilitation of washrooms, provision of a water system, plumbing works, and a disability-friendly walkway, among others.

Mrs Justina Paaga, the Western Regional Manager of GNA, expressed gratitude to the General Manager and his team for the visit. She emphasized that the project, when completed, would provide a safe working environment for staff to deliver accurate and unbiased news stories for nation-building. Similar renovation works are ongoing at the Agency's Head Office in Accra, as well as in Tema and Tamale offices.
