Accra: Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Finance and Administration, has advised graduates of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to master the construction of digital tools in their respective disciplines to remain competitive in the workforce. She emphasized that modern ICT tools such as AI coding and robotics would enhance their competence and set them apart from their peers in the job market. This advice was delivered during the 26th Congregation of GIMPA held in Accra for both graduate and undergraduate students.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Bampoe Addo urged the graduates to capitalize on the knowledge acquired from GIMPA while staying vigilant to technological disruptions. She highlighted the importance of building systems rather than merely consuming them, as the world is moving towards self-sustaining systems that manage performance, forecast markets, and administer functions autonomously. Additionally, she encouraged the graduates to protect their creativity, talents, passion, and originality, advising them to use tools as a support to enhance their thinking rather than replace it.
Nana Oye Addo also stressed the necessity of cybersecurity, mentioning the government's efforts to align innovation with protection. She cited the collaboration between the cybersecurity authority and the Ghana Police Service in combating cybercrime networks. The government is treating technology as a fundamental aspect of its national strategy, illustrated by the launch of Ghana's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025 to 2035, which is built on eight pillars ranging from education to public sector deployment. She also mentioned the establishment of the National AI Fund and plans for a $250 million National AI Computing Center to foster research and enterprise.
The government's commitment extends to AI training, supported by the United Nations Development Planning, which has been extended to ministers. Performance indicators now track digital adoption across sectors. Furthermore, a curriculum review committee is introducing coding, robotics, and AI education from the basic school level.
Prof Samuel Kwaku Bonsu, Rector of GIMPA, encouraged the students to uphold the institution's spirit and image in their future endeavors. He urged them to be exemplary ambassadors of GIMPA, assuring them of the institution's continued support. He also announced the near completion of a 3,000-seater stadium for sports activities at the institute.
Ms Samuela Amma Boakye-Appiah, who was recognized as the overall best graduating student, expressed gratitude, attributing her achievement to divine favor. Having graduated with a Master of Laws degree in International Criminal Law and Justice, she affirmed that the graduates have been transformed and equipped to positively impact society through the quality education received at GIMPA. Ms. Boakye-Appiah commended the management for their role in shaping the graduates and pledged to uphold these values with ethical responsibility.
