Ghana’s Economy Grows 6.4% in First Quarter of 2026

Accra: The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has revealed that Ghana's economy expanded by 6.4 percent in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting a slight improvement over the 6.2 percent growth recorded in the same period in 2025.

According to Ghana Web, the latest report released on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, indicates that this figure also represents a significant increase from the 4.9 percent growth recorded in the first quarter of 2024, signalling continued momentum in the country's economic recovery.

The report further points out that nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose to GHS420.4 billion in the first quarter of 2026, up from GHS378 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. Real GDP also increased to GHS57.4 billion from GHS53.9 billion recorded a year earlier.

The non-oil sector continued to drive economic activity, with nominal non-oil GDP rising to GHS410.9 billion from GHS366.8 billion in the first quarter of 2025. Similarly, non-oil GDP increased to GHS55.3 billion from GHS52.0 billion over the same period. However, non-oil growth moderated to 6.3 percent, down from 8.0 percent recorded in the first quarter of 2025.

The report further showed a sharp decline in the GDP deflator, which fell to 4.1 percent from 23.9 percent in the corresponding period last year, indicating easing price pressures across the economy. The GSS noted that the stronger growth performance, coupled with declining inflationary pressures, reflects improving macroeconomic conditions and increased economic activity during the first three months of 2026.
