Volta north: Two drivers are in the grips of the Volta North Regional Police Command for carrying dried substances suspected to be Indian Hemp. Akyereme George, 43 years, and Benjamin Akpado, aged 23, were arrested on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

According to Ghana News Agency, Inspector Felix Kwao, the Volta North Regional Public Relations Officer, disclosed in a release that the suspects were in vehicles with registration numbers GE-8254-13 and AW-4321-14, heading toward Kpando. He indicated that upon spotting the Police Patrol car, the suspects attempted to evade arrest by speeding into a nearby bush, but were subsequently apprehended by the police.

Inspector Kwao reported that a search conducted on the vehicles uncovered 20 sacks containing 680 pieces of dried leaves packed in white rubber bags. He mentioned that the suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the owners of the substances to ensure they face the full rigors of the law.

Inspector Kwao assured the public of the Command's ongoing commitment to eradicating drug trafficking activities within the region.
