Accra: Ghanaians are at war with Zambians on social media after the latter mocked the fugu outfit Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama wore during his arrival in their country for a three-day state visit.
According to Ghana Web, the beautiful story of the Northern people and their rich fugu culture was brought to light in 2019 on the platform's People and Places series. The fugu, a strikingly artistic cloth, is made from carefully woven yarns featuring various designs, each carrying its own distinctive significance and implication.
The fugu is comparable to the kente of the Ashantis. Originated by the Dagombas, Gonjas, Waalas, and others, this garment has become widely embraced across all tribes in Ghana. It is available in different forms, including handwoven and sewn smocks, shirts, trousers, and hats for men, as well as dresses for women and children.
