Ghanaian Vice-Presidential Candidate Advocates for National Unity Over Partisan Politics

Sekondi: Mr. Kwame Owusu Danso (KOD), Vice-Presidential candidate of the Movement for Change (Afrafranto Alliance), has voiced significant concerns about Ghana's prevailing political system, which he views as overly partisan and detrimental to national unity. In recent discussions with community leaders in Sekondi and Sekondi Zongo, KOD criticized the divisive winner-takes-all approach and endorsed a government of national unity to foster inclusiveness and national development. According to Ghana News Agency, KOD highlighted the adverse impacts of the winner-takes-all system, which prioritizes party affiliation over national welfare, during his meetings with local chiefs and religious leaders. He pointed out that this approach leads to the distribution of national resources such as contracts and scholarships primarily to members of the ruling party, thereby excluding a significant portion of the population. KOD expressed his support for presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen, emphasizing that under Kyeremat en's leadership, the Movement for Change aims to establish a government that values inclusivity and prioritizes the country's progress over party loyalty. 'What we need is a government of national unity, not one that serves just the interests of a few party loyalists," KOD stated, underscoring the need for a collaborative effort towards national development. During his speeches, KOD also touched on the negative consequences of political exclusion, noting that it not only fosters corruption but also prevents the country from benefiting from the talents of all its citizens, regardless of their political affiliations. He argued for a merit-based system where appointments and opportunities are awarded based on competence rather than party loyalty. The local leaders, including the chiefs and elders of Sekondi and the Imams and chiefs of Sekondi Zongo, responded positively to KOD's message, offering their blessings and calling on the youth to eschew conflict and embrace unity. They acknowledged the importance of his vision in promoting a peaceful political environment, especially during election periods. KOD's advocacy for a government of national unity represents a critical discourse on the need to transform Ghana's political landscape into one that is less partisan and more inclusive, ensuring that all citizens have the opportunity to contribute to the nation's development.
