Rabat: Ghana will participate in the upcoming African Open Government Conference from May 5-7 in Rabat, Morocco, with a multi-stakeholder delegation, led by the Minister of State for Public Sector Reforms, Madam Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba.
According to Ghana News Agency, the delegation comprises members of the Parliamentary Caucus on Open Government Partnership (OGP), representatives from Civil Society Organisation, and Officials from the OGP Ghana Office at the Public Sector Reform Secretariat. The conference, themed 'Towards an Open Africa,' seeks to advance transparency, accountability, citizen participation, and innovation in governance across African nations.
A release copied to the Ghana News Agency highlighted that Ghana's participation aims to demonstrate progress on open government reforms and public service delivery, while also strengthening collaboration between Government, Parliament, Civil Society, and Development Partners. Participants are expected to learn from best practices across the continent and engage in dialogue promoting digital innovation and transparency in governance.
Ghana is set to contribute to discussions on anti-corruption, parliamentary openness, citizen engagement, and digital transformation. Reflecting on past engagements, Ghana joined the 2025 'Open Government Partnership (OGP)' Global Summit in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, in October last year. The Summit provided a platform for officials worldwide to exchange experiences, share best practices, and review progress on open governance reforms and the implementation of National Action Plans.
The Open Government Partnership Ghana Office operates under the Public Sector Reform Secretariat. The OGP is grounded on the principle that an open government is more accessible, responsive, and accountable to citizens, fostering an improved relationship between people and their governments, which offers long-term benefits for all stakeholders. The model ensures that Civil Society Organisations or direct citizen engagement play a role in shaping and overseeing government performance, aiming to inspire and enable reformers and champions from both government and civil society to take collective action.
