Accra: The Executive Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, has announced that Ghana will have a dedicated aircraft for presidential travel by November this year. This development comes amid public debate over President John Dramani Mahama's use of a private aircraft belonging to his brother Ibrahim Mahama for official duties.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Mahama explained that many state institutions inherited by the President, including critical operational capacities within the security services, are undergoing rebuilding and reform. Plans are already underway to strengthen Ghana's presidential air transport capability. The new arrangement will include additional aircraft within the presidential fleet, ensuring that the President can rely fully on state-owned assets for safe and efficient travel.
Dr Mahama stated that the Ghana Armed Forces, which play an important role in state aviation, are part of the ongoing process of renewal. By November this year, the country is expected to have additional aircraft within the presidential fleet, including one dedicated to the President's travel. This move is expected to eliminate the need for temporary arrangements that have been a topic of public discussion.
Dr Mahama also highlighted that President Mahama frequently questions the cost of governance, including travel expenses, and is conscious of the symbolism of leadership in times of economic strain. He reiterated that the government's Reset Agenda is focused on steady institutional improvement rather than slogans. The President's familiarity with the limits of public office, having served before, is seen as shaping his approach to leadership and governance.
