Accra: High jumper Esther Obenewaa clinched a silver medal for Ghana at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships. The athlete achieved a personal best by clearing 1.81 meters, bringing pride to the host nation with her performance.
According to Ghana News Agency, earlier in the day, Florence Agyemang earned Ghana's first medal of the championships. Agyemang displayed determination and resilience in the women's 400 meters final, finishing third at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra. Her time of 51.87 seconds secured a bronze medal, with Ethiopia's Ayayba Aliy Ahmed taking gold and Botswana's Kamberuk Obakeng claiming silver in the fiercely contested race.
Adding to the medal tally, Alex Amankwah captured bronze in the men's 800m finals. Amankwah completed the race in 1:46.18 seconds, securing Ghana's second bronze medal of the competition. These achievements come as a significant morale booster for Ghana, especially following the previous day's disappointment when the men's 100m race concluded without any medals for the team.
