Ghana Records GHS493.2 Billion in Mobile Money Transactions in April

Accra: The value of mobile money transactions in Ghana reached GHS493.2 billion in April 2026, as reported in the latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data for May 2026, released by the Bank of Ghana. This figure marks an increase from the GHS484.6 billion recorded in March 2026.

According to Ghana Web, the data from the central bank indicated a growth in the number of registered mobile money accounts, which rose from 80.5 million in December 2025 to 83 million by April 2026. Of these, 26 million were active accounts. The number of registered agents saw an increase, reaching 992,000, while active agents grew to 534,000.

The mobile money float balances experienced an upward trend, rising from GHS35.4 billion in March to GHS36.7 billion in April 2026. Additionally, mobile money interoperability transactions were reported at GHS5.8 billion, encompassing 31.7 million transactions.

Cheque clearing transactions processed during April amounted to GHS36.6 billion across 413,000 transactions. In the same period, Automated Clearing House Direct Credit transactions were recorded at GHS13.5 billion, with 816,000 transactions processed.

Furthermore, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Instant Pay transactions saw an increase from GHS71.5 billion in March to GHS79 billion in April 2026, with transaction volumes approaching 19.9 million.
