Accra: Simon Madjie, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), has assured foreign investors of a secure and non-discriminatory investment climate in Ghana. He stated that the nation's legal and regulatory framework guarantees protection against expropriation and discrimination, while also permitting the free transfer of capital, dividends, and profits.
According to Ghana Web, Madjie made these remarks in Accra during a meeting with a business delegation led by Japan's State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kunimitsu Ayano. He emphasized that foreign investors receive the same treatment as local investors, with the only stipulation being adherence to local content requirements designed to enhance participation and value addition.
The cedi concluded the third week of January trading at GHS10.87 to $1, reflecting the economic climate that Madjie highlighted. He pointed out that Ghana's stable democratic system, predictable governance structures, and independent institutions continue to inspire confidence among investors.
Additionally, Madjie underscored Ghana's role as the host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, offering access to a continental market of approximately 1.4 billion people, alongside the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) market of over 400 million people. He also noted that Ghana has signed several bilateral and multilateral agreements, including those on dispute resolution and arbitration, enabling investors to enforce awards locally.
Madjie reaffirmed that "Ghana's Constitution explicitly encourages and protects foreign direct investment," illustrating the country's commitment to maintaining a favorable investment environment.
