Sekondi: The Ghana Navy has named its Shipyard Slipway at the Sekondi Naval Base after Commander John Arthur Kofi Adiku (Rtd), who served as the first Commanding Officer of the Naval Shipyard.
According to Ghana News Agency, this gesture recognizes Cdr Adiku (Rtd) for his contributions to naval engineering, ship maintenance, and the growth of the Ghana Navy during his tenure from July 1975 to September 1979. The ceremony, organized by the Naval Logistics Command at Sekondi, was attended by high-ranking officials from the Navy, including Air Vice Marshall Eric Agyen-Frempong, the Chief of Air Staff, former Chiefs of Naval Staff, and regional security service leaders. Family, friends, traditional authorities, and clergy were also present.
Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, the Chief of Naval Staff, spoke at the event, highlighting the impact of Cdr Adiku's vision, discipline, and technical expertise on the foundation of naval engineering within the Ghana Navy.
