Accra: The Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours Secretariat has issued a clarification stating that its awards are determined solely on merit and are not contingent upon any form of financial contribution or sponsorship.
According to Ghana Web, a statement dated June 8, 2026, emphasized that no financial support is required from individuals or institutions for recognition or selection for the honours. The Secretariat explained that the awards are aimed at recognizing significant contributions to national development and governance within a given timeframe, with an overarching goal of promoting accountability, innovation, and service in public administration.
The Secretariat noted that the awards platform has established itself as a key initiative for celebrating leadership and service within Ghana's public sector. It was established to spotlight individuals and institutions whose work significantly impacts national progress and strengthens governance practices.
In its mission to uphold these objectives, the Secretariat engages various stakeholders, including public institutions, development partners, and professional bodies, all of which align with governance, performance, and national development goals. It highlighted the engagement with the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) as a part of these broader collaboration efforts. SIGA is regarded as a natural partner due to its role in promoting accountability and good governance within state-owned enterprises.
The Secretariat clarified that its interaction with SIGA and similar stakeholders does not influence the selection of award recipients. The decision-making process for recognition remains independent and uninfluenced by any external engagements.
The history of the honours platform was also highlighted, showcasing its recognition of distinguished personalities from various sectors, including political, academic, and professional fields. Notable past recipients include Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye and Alan Kyerematen, among others.
