Accra: Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan paid a tribute to the man who discovered his talent, coach J.E.A. Sarpong, at his unveiling as the ambassador for Ghana national teams and colts football. As a product of juvenile football, Gyan was given the role of spearheading the country's most beloved sports in an ambassadorial capacity at an event in Accra.
According to Ghana Web, various dignitaries across the sporting and political spheres attended the occasion, with coach Sarpong among the attendees. His presence led to an emotional reunion with Gyan, who took the opportunity to acknowledge his former instructor. The veteran coach had met Gyan at Accra Academy, where he played a significant role in developing Gyan's talent.
Gyan presented a jersey to his former trainer and shared memories of their past. He also addressed other former teammates who attended the event, including Stephen Appiah, Prince Tagoe, and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu.
Speaking about his new role, Gyan expressed gratitude for the recognition, thanking the President and the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association for entrusting him with the responsibility. He emphasized his commitment to serving Ghana football with passion and dedication.
Gyan remains a significant figure in global football, holding the record as Africa's top scorer at the World Cup and Ghana's record goal-scorer.
