Accra: The Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has paid tribute to the late former Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, describing him as a dedicated individual whose death is a significant loss to the country.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Ayew Afriye delivered a video tribute ahead of the memorial lecture scheduled for August 4, 2026, highlighting their shared paths in medicine and politics. Despite their political differences, they maintained a cordial relationship. Dr Ayew Afriye emphasized the late Dr Omane Boamah's amicable nature and their mutual respect, citing their frequent exchanges and the late Minister's competence in all his endeavors.
Dr Ayew Afriye recalled how they often jested with each other, portraying Dr Omane Boamah as someone who excelled at every task. He noted that Dr Omane Boamah's ability to complete tasks to perfection earned him admiration, affirming the country's loss of a valuable figure.
The inaugural Annual Public Lecture in Dr Omane Boamah's honor will acknowledge his contributions to Ghana's national security framework and his public service legacy. The event will address his leadership in the defense sector, focusing on regional security cooperation, military welfare, and national defense strategy.
A panel comprising security experts, academics, and defense officials will discuss emerging security challenges in West Africa, civil-military relations, and the modernization of Ghana's defense infrastructure.
Dr Omane Boamah tragically died with seven others on August 6, 2025, following a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
