Ghana: Ghana's Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has held discussions with the World Bank's Managing Director for Operations, Anna Bjerde, on the country's economic progress and ongoing policy priorities. The meeting took place during the ongoing 2026 IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., where both parties reviewed Ghana's recent economic performance and reform agenda.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Ato Forson expressed that despite recent global economic shocks, Ghana has remained resilient. He attributed this resilience to prudent policy decisions, fiscal buffers, and ongoing reforms. He emphasized that increased gas production has been crucial in mitigating the impact of rising global energy prices on the domestic economy.
Dr Ato Forson highlighted the government's commitment to addressing inefficiencies in the energy distribution sector through increased private sector participation. This approach aims to improve performance and efficiency within the sector.
Anna Bjerde, representing the World Bank, reaffirmed the institution's support for Ghana. She emphasized the importance of resolving challenges within the energy sector and stressed the need for sustained efforts to address structural issues.
