Tema: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Bankers Association, John Awuah, has revealed how he was once scammed shortly after appearing on a live radio programme to educate the public about cyber fraud.
According to Ghana Web, the incident occurred just moments after Awuah left the studio, despite having recently discussed the dangers of fraud and the importance of vigilance. The scam resulted in a loss of GH?67, which Awuah described as a potent reminder that anyone can fall victim to fraud, regardless of their knowledge or position.
Awuah recounted the incident, sharing, "To be honest, now when I'm saying that, I even get scared because there was a day I was at Joy FM studio to give public education on cyber fraud and just after the studio, when I sat in the car, I got defrauded of GH?67." He emphasized that fraudsters target individuals from all walks of life, and no one should assume they are immune because of their education or experience.
He further warned that some individuals underestimate the risk of fraud, believing their level of education makes them less likely to be targeted. Awuah stated, "So, the danger we are having in this country is that there are people who believe they are immune. It's like their level of education kind of takes them out of the fraud."
This revelation comes amid recent developments where police have arrested 10 suspects in a cyber fraud syndicate in Tema and 39 individuals were rescued concerning an alleged overseas travel fraud scheme in Hohoe.
