Accra: In an official visit to Ghana as part of a study and capacity building mission, a high-level delegation from the Republic of Burundi met with officials at the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) on May 26, 2026. The visit aims to foster cooperation and share expertise in the extractive sector between the two nations.
According to Ghana Web, the four-member Burundian delegation was led by Igiraneza Aristide, Director General in Charge of the Hydrocarbons, Mines and Quarries Programme at the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Energy, Industry, Trade and Tourism. They were accompanied by officials from Ghana's Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
During the meeting, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, the MDF Administrator, welcomed the delegation and emphasized Ghana's willingness to share its experiences and strategies in optimizing mineral revenues for the benefit of local communities. She highlighted the importance of bilateral engagements in achieving mutual development goals.
Frank Hayford, the Director of Operations for the MDF, provided a comprehensive technical presentation on the fund's statutory operations. The briefing offered the Burundian delegation valuable insights into the mechanisms of mineral revenue mobilization and its role in fostering economic and sustainable development within mining communities.
The visit is part of a broader, structured week-long initiative focused on exploring Ghana's legislative, institutional, and governance frameworks in the extractive sector. This mission aims to enhance understanding and collaboration between Ghana and Burundi in managing and developing their respective extractive resources.
