Accra: Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that Ghana and Belarus are poised to begin negotiations on a visa waiver agreement. This initiative is part of a concerted effort to deepen bilateral ties between the two nations.
According to Ghana Web, the announcement came after a meeting between Ablakwa and Maxim Ryzhenkov, Belarus' Foreign Minister, who was on an official visit to Ghana. Ablakwa described the visit as memorable, highlighting that the discussions centered on enhancing cooperation across various strategic sectors.
The proposed visa waiver agreement is aimed at facilitating travel between Ghana and Belarus, with the potential to bolster diplomatic engagement, trade, educational exchanges, and broader cooperation. Ablakwa emphasized that both countries have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening long-standing relations and exploring new areas of collaboration.
In addition to the visa waiver initiative, Ghana and Belarus are looking to enhance cooperation in mechanised agriculture and tractor production. Ghana intends to leverage these developments to support the Feed Ghana initiative led by President John Dramani Mahama.
The discussions also delved into educational partnerships, defense cooperation, and cybersecurity collaboration, which are seen as crucial areas for expanding bilateral engagement. Ablakwa conveyed optimism about the future of Ghana-Belarus relations, noting that the ongoing engagements indicate a positive outlook for cooperation between the two countries.
