Accra: The Ghana Football Association (GFA), through its Medical Committee, will hold a mid-season refresher workshop for medical personnel working within Ghana's football system on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
According to Ghana News Agency, the workshop, themed 'Tackling Mid-Season Overuse Injuries', is part of the association's efforts to improve medical support in football and strengthen the ability of club medical teams to manage player health as the season progresses. Medical representatives from clubs in the Ghana Premier League, the Malta Guinness Women's Premier League, and the Access Bank Division One League are expected to participate. Additionally, medical staff from clubs under the various Regional Football Associations will also attend.
The workshop aims to update participants on practical ways to manage injuries linked to repeated physical strain during the season. It will focus on common overuse injuries that affect players during periods of intense competition. Discussions will cover the risks and causes of overuse injuries, emphasizing factors that increase vulnerability during demanding schedules.
Participants will explore methods for managing common overuse injuries in football through treatment, rehabilitation, and preventive measures aimed at reducing downtime and safeguarding players' long-term health. A significant part of the session will include clinical case discussions, where medical practitioners will review practical situations and share experiences to enhance diagnosis, treatment choices, and recovery plans at the club level.
The workshop is anticipated to foster collaboration, professional learning, and knowledge sharing among those responsible for medical care in Ghanaian football.
