Accra:Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has challenged the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, regarding his proposal for government intervention in the administration of football.
According to Ghana Web, the MP criticized the GFA for the national teams' poor performances and recent failures to qualify for major competitions. He urged the government to disregard FIFA's potential concerns and intervene in order to reform the country's football administration, pointing to the recent mass withdrawals from the Black Stars squad as a significant issue.
In response, Okraku questioned Baffour Awuahs understanding of football administration and labeled the criticisms as a "conspiracy theory." He emphasized that politicians should avoid commenting on football issues, just as football administrators do not interfere in political matters. Okraku highlighted the national joy experienced when Ghana qualified for the World Cup, suggesting that such achievements should not be overlooked.
Okraku also questioned the effectiveness of Baffour Awuah's work in his constituency, particularly in relation to the construction of football pitches. He argued that it would be more constructive to address any concerns privately with the GFA rather than publicly criticizing and calling for reforms. Okraku suggested that the MP should focus on resolving issues like youth unemployment and the lack of adequate sports facilities in his constituency, highlighting the absence of football pitches as a pertinent concern.
