Berlin: A Ghanaian man living in Germany, identified as Alphonse, has recounted how he lost his job following an encounter with a White female colleague at his workplace. Alphonse explained that before relocating abroad, he worked in Ghana as a driver, operating 'trotro,' taxi, and later Uber services. Seeking better opportunities, he moved to Germany, where he eventually secured employment.
According to Ghana Web, Alphonse shared during an interview on SVTV Africa that he was unaware of certain workplace boundaries, particularly regarding interactions with colleagues outside of work. He became friendly with a White female colleague who treated him kindly, which led him to believe she might be interested in him. Acting on that assumption, he asked for her phone number, making the request repeatedly over three days before she eventually gave it to him.
However, afterwards, he said the White lady reported him to management for harassment. Alphonse described how workplace interactions in Germany differed from what he was accustomed to, noting, "Germany is the place where your colleague will pretend they don't know you after work. You will say hello to them at the bus station, and they will ignore you. But they will speak to you the next day after work."
Following the report, Alphonse's employer dismissed him and warned him not to return to the premises. He shared that his boss cautioned him that he could be arrested if he attempted to come back. "I wanted to go back to at least take my shoes and other things, but my boss cautioned me against it. He told me that I'll be arrested if I go back to the workplace. Even though I was pained, I decided to listen to my boss. I had to leave the job. My boss saved me," Alphonse added.
