Kabakaba hill: Members of the Global Evangelical Church, Zion Temple, gathered to celebrate a Traditional and Royal Day aimed at promoting Ghana's cultural identity. The event took place on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the church premises as part of the activities to mark Heritage Sunday and Ghana Month.
According to Ghana News Agency, the program featured congregants dressed in colorful traditional attire representing various ethnic groups across the country. Organized under the theme 'Our Culture, Our Identity: Be Proud You Belong,' the celebration was inspired by the biblical text I Peter 2:9, which highlights believers as a chosen people and a royal priesthood.
Reverend Wisdom Emmanuel Ashiaby, during his sermon, encouraged members to appreciate their cultural roots while living as 'royal people in Christ.' He emphasized that Christian identity should coexist with traditional heritage, particularly during the national observance of Ghana Month. He urged parents to focus on the cultural upbringing of their children and reduce the adoption of foreign lifestyles.
Togbe Misrowoda Macliberty, the Spokesperson of the Church's organizing committee, expressed that the symbolic display of traditional costumes was intended to educate the younger generation about their rich cultural heritage. However, he noted disappointment over the absence of representations like 'Asafo' warrior regalia or depictions of farmers, which are significant aspects of Ghanaian cultural life.
The church encouraged singing groups and ministries to perform songs with traditional rhythm and style. The sermon highlighted cultural practices often observed during community gatherings. Additionally, a fundraising exercise was conducted to support apprenticeship training for members, which the church plans to make an annual initiative.
