Accra: The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has called for continuous collaboration among key stakeholders in the aviation industry to ensure safe airport operations and position Ghana as the preferred aviation destination in the sub-region. The authority emphasized the importance of cooperation among institutions such as the Ghana Airport, Immigration, Customs, and transport agencies to address operational and infrastructural challenges within the aviation sector.
According to Ghana Web, during its 40th anniversary celebration conference in Accra, the Director-General of GCAA, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, highlighted the technical role of the authority in ensuring safe operations and runway management, in conjunction with the Ghana Airport Company. He stressed the necessity for collaboration with other state institutions like the Ministry of Transport to tackle emerging concerns in the aviation sector.
Rev. Arthur explained that developers must seek clearance from the GCAA before initiating projects to maintain aviation safety standards. He also pointed out the need for broader stakeholder engagement in developments around airport areas and access routes, given their impact on airport operations and passenger movement.
The Director-General urged airlines and allied agencies to enhance compliance and innovation efforts within the aviation sector. He called on all stakeholders to work in concert to promote safety, efficiency, and growth in Ghana's aviation industry.
The former Director-General of GCAA, Wing Commander Andy Mensah, commended the significant improvements in the country's airport infrastructure, reflecting on the challenging conditions of past aviation operations.
