Accra: The Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) has detained four individuals associated with Power Distribution Services (PDS) as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged transfer of substantial funds, suspected to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The arrests are part of the government's broader Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.
According to Ghana Web, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the arrests on his Facebook page. The individuals identified are Philip Ayensu, Viraj Phat, Sophia Korkor, and Justice Menka-Premoh. Kwakye Ofosu noted that the suspects have been released on bail while investigations continue, reflecting the government's commitment to due process.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that seven cases related to ORAL are currently in court, with an additional five cases ready to be filed as investigations advance. The government is making efforts to ensure these cases proceed without unnecessary delays while maintaining the judiciary's independence. President Mahama emphasized his inability to expedite court proceedings due to the principle of separation of powers, which delineates the executive and judiciary roles.
The president further stated that discussions with the Chief Justice are ongoing to facilitate timely hearings and judgments. He expressed hope that the legal process would determine the guilt or innocence of the accused, underscoring the importance of a fair and expeditious judicial process.
