Accra: In a bid to preserve the integrity of Ghanaian football, Bilal Muazu Sulemana, the former Chief Executive Officer of Yeji Stars Football Club, has formally requested an independent investigation into allegations surrounding the player selection process for Ghana's senior national football team, the Black Stars. The call for action follows claims that Ghanaian striker Prince Owusu was asked to concede 70% of his appearance fees and bonuses as a precondition for his call-up to the team.
According to Ghana Web, the allegations, which have circulated on both traditional and social media, have yet to be verified but pose serious concerns that could damage public trust in the management of the national team. Additionally, former Black Stars midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari has previously voiced worries over unethical practices within the team's administration, further highlighting the need for a comprehensive inquiry.
The petition emphasizes the necessity for a player selection process free from corruption and undue influence. Sulemana insists that an independent investigation will either exonerate the Ghana Football Association and other implicated parties if the allegations are unfounded or ensure accountability if any misconduct is uncovered.
