Accra: Former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Betty Krosby Mensah, has praised the Mahama-led government for successfully evacuating Ghanaians from South Africa in response to recent xenophobic attacks on African migrants.
According to Ghana Web, in an exclusive interview with Veronica Onuman on July 26, 2026, Krosby Mensah expressed her pride in the government's prompt action to rescue citizens stranded in the midst of escalating tensions. "I feel proud to be a Ghanaian at this time. Look at the swift intervention by the government to rescue Ghanaians from South Africa. The Mahama government has saved us from humiliation," she stated.
Krosby Mensah emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to enhance the well-being of Ghanaians, citing the Ghana Medical Trust Fund as an example of initiatives that have enabled citizens to access healthcare services nationwide.
The evacuation marks the completion of efforts to bring back the final group of Ghanaians from South Africa following anti-migrant sentiments in the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on July 25, 2026, indicating that some evacuees were set to arrive in Ghana on Sunday, July 26, 2026, with the remaining group expected on Monday, July 27, 2026.
