Accra: Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that a forensic audit report into the National Cathedral project has been submitted to the Attorney General for review.
According to Ghana Web, the report was received by the Attorney General on Friday, August 7, 2026, and is currently under examination to determine the next steps. Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam on Thursday, August 13, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu mentioned that the forensic audit was initiated following an earlier audit by Deloitte and Touche, which uncovered financial irregularities.
He further explained that while the initial audit highlighted issues with the project’s finances, it did not provide sufficient information regarding the individuals responsible or the legality of the transactions. ‘Deloitte and Touche audited the financial reports of the National Cathedral, which revealed financial irregularities, but it didn’t tell all the issues,’ he said.
Therefore, authorities decided to conduct a forensic audit to identify those responsible for the irregularities and determine the legality of the transactions. ‘So, we had to go further and do the forensic audit to know the people who were responsible for those irregularities and whether it was lawful or not,’ he said.
Kwakye Ofosu noted that the Attorney General subsequently authorized the Auditor-General to conduct the forensic audit, which has now been completed. ‘The Attorney General received the forensic audit report last Friday and is going through it to determine the next line of action,’ he stated.
He emphasized that he had not seen the report and would refrain from commenting on its findings until the appropriate time. ‘I haven’t seen the report myself, and even if I have, I won’t speak to the issues because it is not time,’ he said.
He reiterated that the findings of the initial audit indicated issues requiring further investigation, with the forensic audit expected to identify those responsible. ‘But the initial report revealed that something went wrong, so the forensic will prove those responsible,’ he said.
Kwakye Ofosu assured that no individual would be shielded if the forensic audit reveals any wrongdoing. The Attorney General will decide on the appropriate legal action based on the report’s findings. ‘So, if anyone is indicted, I won’t be the one to say who should face the law or not. Based on the report, the Attorney General will take the necessary steps,’ he stated.
The forensic audit aims to clarify how funds were allocated in the National Cathedral project and ensure accountability for taxpayers’ money.
