Accra: The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has engaged in discussions with the Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer of the World Bank, Paschal Donohoe, concerning Ghana's economic transformation and the subsequent phase of the country's development agenda. The meeting was centered around strategies to bolster the economy and create sustainable employment opportunities, particularly targeting the nation's burgeoning youth population.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Forson emphasized that the government has spent the past year implementing measures aimed at resetting the economy and steering it towards fiscal sustainability. He pointed out that unemployment, particularly among young people, remains a significant challenge for the country. With Africa's rapidly growing youthful population, Dr Forson asserted that the public sector alone is insufficient to provide the necessary employment opportunities, highlighting the importance of policies and programs that foster job creation in other sectors of the economy. He detailed that the government is launching major initiatives designed to generate sustainable employment and broaden opportunities for the youth.
Paschal Donohoe lauded Ghana for its substantial improvement in national finances and reiterated the World Bank's commitment to supporting the country's development agenda. He mentioned that the World Bank is prepared to assist Ghana through initiatives such as a Jobs and Growth Analysis, which aims to identify new opportunities for job creation and economic expansion.
Dr Forson expressed appreciation for the ongoing partnership with the World Bank, noting that such collaboration is vital as the government endeavors to create jobs, expand economic opportunities, and secure a more prosperous future for all Ghanaians.
