Female National Service Member Gains Employment After Aiding Akosombo Fire Response

Akosombo: A young female National Service person has received instant employment following her contribution during the recent fire outbreak at the control room of the Akosombo switchyard.

According to Ghana Web, it was reported that President John Dramani Mahama recommended automatic employment for the service person due to the pivotal role played in the recovery efforts after the GRIDCo substation fire incident at Akosombo. The recommendation was made during President Mahama's inspection tour of the facility on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

"In recognition of exceptional dedication, President Mahama has recommended automatic employment for a female national service person who played a role in recovery efforts following the Akosombo GRIDCo Substation fire incident. During a tour of the facility, President Mahama also commended the engineers whose tireless work led to the successful restoration of power," the post stated.

During his remarks, the president noted that the NSS personnel demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism in the line of duty, contributing significantly to efforts to stabilise the national grid in the aftermath of the disruption. Meanwhile, the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, also disclosed that MTN Ghana has donated GHS1 million worth of airtime and data bundles as a token of appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice of personnel involved in restoring power.
