Agona swedru: Reverend Father Paul Peprah, Head of Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Church at Agona Swedru, has urged politicians to utilize state resources to support the poor and vulnerable within society. Father Peprah emphasized that the citizens of Ghana have voted to entrust political power to leaders with the expectation of governance that alleviates social and economic challenges.
According to Ghana News Agency, Father Peprah expressed concern that some politicians, upon assuming office, focus on enjoying the “national booty” with their families and associates, neglecting the needs of the majority who remain in poverty. These remarks were made during an interview after Father Peprah delivered a message to congregants at an Easter celebration in Agona Swedru, located in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region.
Father Peprah highlighted the responsibility of politicians to manage state resources effectively, ensuring that they reach the vulnerable populations. He appealed to policymakers to prioritize the needs of ordinary citizens and address their challenges with genuine commitment and compassion.
Furthermore, Father Peprah reminded leaders that it is God who influences the electorate to entrust them with leadership roles across various sectors, including the economy, education, and infrastructure. He also advised the youth against the use of hard drugs, advocating for a commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ alongside their educational pursuits and other positive endeavors.
In relation to the Easter season, Father Peprah reflected on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who suffered a painful death for the redemption of mankind. He urged Christians to reciprocate this love by adhering to spiritual values rather than focusing on material gains, which many have recently prioritized over moral conduct.
Father Peprah concluded by encouraging Christians to avoid immorality and behaviors that undermine the significance of Christ’s sacrifice, citing the biblical verse, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish.”
In addition, Mr. Ernest Mensah Amegashie, President of Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, advised the youth to abstain from hard drugs, highlighting the potential negative impact on their future wellbeing. He shared that the Church had organized activities for Easter Monday, including indoor games and a food bazaar, aimed at engaging the youth and deterring them from visiting inappropriate places. Mr. Amegashie also encouraged Church members to maintain their faith and contemplate the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ.
