Accra: An ex-convict has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with unlawful entry, assault, and robbery.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dickson Larbi, also known as Puplampu, is alleged to have entered a house at Sakumono on June 22, 2026, and robbed a seamstress after threatening her with a metallic object. Chief Inspector Josephine Lamptey, prosecuting, informed the court that the complainant, Pauline Dankwa-Smith, resides in Sakumono, while the accused is unemployed and has no fixed place of abode.
The prosecution narrated that Dankwa-Smith spotted Larbi in her backyard near her water meter. Upon seeing her, Larbi signaled her not to shout, but she raised an alarm and attempted to run. Larbi then pushed her to the floor, pointed a sharp metal object at her, and ordered her to surrender her mobile phone. Despite the threats, Dankwa-Smith continued to shout for help.
Larbi forcibly snatched the phone but later discarded it and attempted to escape by scaling the wall. He was later found hiding in the ceiling of a neighbor's house and was handed over to the police. The prosecution stated that a pair of scissors, slippers, and a hat belonging to Larbi were retrieved from the scene.
Investigations revealed that Larbi was an ex-convict who had recently returned from jail after committing a similar offense. In his caution statement, Larbi denied the charges, claiming he went to the complainant's house to look for scraps. He has been admitted to bail in the sum of GHS200,000 with three sureties, one to be justified with landed property. Larbi is expected to reappear in court on August 17, 2026.
