Accra: A former Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie, has sued Charles Amegadzie, a national security operative, as well as several media houses and their editors for publishing alleged defamatory material against her.
According to Ghana Web, the defendants include Prosper Kay, Roger A. Agana, NewsGhana.com.gh, Supreme Newspaper, Cloudview Technology Limited, and Opera Norway AS (Opera News). Amegadzie is alleged to have initiated the publication of a story about a disputed land, which implied that COP Andoh-Kwofie exploited her position in the police service for land grabbing.
COP Andoh-Kwofie asserts that the report is entirely false. She is, therefore, requesting the High Court to declare the publication defamatory and to compel the defendants to immediately delete the story in its entirety, retract it, and issue an unreserved apology.
Furthermore, she is seeking GHS10 million in general, aggravated, and exemplary damages for defamation, along with a perpetual injunction preventing the defendants and their agents from further publishing the alleged defamatory material. COP Andoh-Kwofie explained that the disputed land is currently under consideration by a court of competent jurisdiction, and the story's framing to depict her as a corrupt police officer who misused her office is defamatory.
