Accra: Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, has launched the implementation of the Primary Healthcare Programme (PHC) in the Ahafo Region, assuring that every Ghanaian will have access to affordable and quality healthcare under the programme.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Minister emphasized that the PHC marks a significant step towards improving access to quality healthcare nationwide. He noted that the execution of the programme would make essential health services more affordable and strengthen healthcare delivery at the community level.
Speaking at a ceremony in Goaso, the regional capital, Mr. Akandoh highlighted that the programme would also enhance public health facilities to deliver quality healthcare services to the masses. In support of the programme's implementation in the region, the Minister presented health consumables.
Madam Charity Gardiner, the Ahafo Regional Minister, noted that Community-based Health Service (CHPS) compounds are being constructed across the six politically administrative districts and municipalities in the region. These CHPS compounds are intended to bring healthcare service delivery closer to the people, thereby enhancing their health status.
Madam Gardiner further stated that the government is committed to bringing holistic development to the region, with improving quality healthcare as a top priority.
Dr. Peter Yeboah, the Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana, described the PHC programme as a game changer that would improve health outcomes in the country. He emphasized that the PHC is the most important healthcare intervention programme since the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Dr. Yeboah pledged CHAG's full support to facilitate the successful implementation and sustainability of the programme.
