Accra: Nearly two decades after one of Ghana's most publicized gospel industry divorces, Rev Ahenkan Bonsu, the ex-husband of renowned gospel musician Esther Smith, has broken his silence in a tell-all interview, revealing the moment he knew his marriage was over.
According to Ghana Web, Bonsu recounted during an interview on Radio XYZ that Esther had left for a show and he attempted to reach her, only to discover she had traveled to the United States. He remained unaware of her whereabouts until a startling phone call from a friend informed him that she had been spotted performing at a Church of Pentecost branch in New York, where an announcement was made about a naming ceremony for her child.
Bonsu expressed his shock upon learning she had given birth without his knowledge. His friend recorded the event and sent the footage to him, which Bonsu then presented to their bishop, marking the official end of their marriage. The situation was exacerbated when he discovered the child's name was Bright Smith Bonsu, a name he had previously discussed with Esther, intending it to be Bright Ahenkan Bonsu.
Further complicating matters, Bonsu accused Esther of abandoning their eldest child after the divorce. He claimed she took their two younger children, leaving their oldest, Mighty, with him and failing to maintain contact. Bonsu stated he has not seen his other children since the separation.
The marriage, which began in the mid-2000s, ended after approximately four years, culminating in a highly publicized divorce between 2008 and 2010. Esther Smith has previously shared her side of the story, alleging she was a victim of domestic abuse during the marriage and refuting claims about giving their child to another man, attributing such rumors to her ex-husband's narratives.
